It is not easy to decide what profession to choose. Usually, pupils’ plans for the future change many times during the school years. There are so many people who influence you in choosing your occupation. Parents and friends play a very important role in your choice. Teachers’ influence on pupils’ mind is also great.
When I was at school, I liked to things to do: to dance and to teach English. My teachers always helped and inspired me, they became for me an example of what should be a good teacher. That's why I decided to learn the two professions: the profession of choreographer and teacher of English.
The profession of teacher is very important. Teachers have the very important responsibility of shaping the lives of young, impressionable children. With this responsibility comes great pride and joy. Therefore all teachers should strive for what can be considered to be a “good teacher.” A good teacher can be defined as someone who always pushes students to want to do their best while at the same time trying to make learning interesting as well as creative. A positive or negative influence from a teacher early on in life can have a great effect on the life of a child.
But what need to do to become a good teacher today? There are some steps to do it. Understanding what steps teachers can take to improve their performance in the classroom is important to becoming a great teacher. There are some of them:
Good Teachers Take Time to Reflect
One of the best things good teachers do is regularly reflect on their teaching and managing skills. After giving a lesson, the teacher will sit down and look back over it to determine what worked and what did not. She will then make adjustments to improve the lesson plan for the next time it is taught. A good teacher will also take time to look at the big picture. This means spending some time figuring out what her goal is for the class and the progress they are making toward that goal. If needed, the teacher will adjust her teaching and her managing style to better suit the needs of her students.
Use Many Different Modes of Teaching
A good teacher does not have just one way of teaching. Students all learn differently and the most effective way to reach all of them is to teach content matter using varying modes and styles of instruction. Some of these may include small group sessions, whole group instruction or individual work. It could also be varied by using books, songs, dance, or anything else creative that will help students learn to their fullest potential.
Good Teachers Can Accept Criticism and Praise
Good teachers know that they do not have all the answers. If another teacher or administrator makes a recommendation or criticism, the teacher does not see it as a personal attack, but rather an opportunity to reflect on that practice and make adjustments as necessary. The teacher will also graciously accept praise and also offer praise whenever it is merited.
The Best Teachers Don't give up
A good teacher never gives up. Giving up on the students guarantees that they will not succeed. By pushing through the tough or even impossible times, a good teacher will help her students overcome the obstacles they are facing and show them that perseverance pays off. A teacher who gives up only shows students that failure is an option and it is not necessary to try one’s best.
The most important thing a good teacher does is remain positive. A positive attitude goes a long way toward helping everyone in the class be successful. When the students see that their teacher is always positive and confident that it can be done, then the students will begin to adopt that same attitude. As students become more positive, behavior problems will diminish as the entire class works toward the goals that their teacher has developed for them.
Teachers have a lot of responsibility and need to make sure that they make learning a positive experience for all. By being sensitive to the needs of everyone and presenting different ways of doing things, it can be possible for everyone to have an equal opportunity to do their best.
